Michelle Kennedy is an author, columnist and the mother of four children. She has authored a series of parenting books called the Last Straw Strategies published by Barron's.

Her memoir, Without a Net: Middle-Class and Homeless (With Kids) in America, will be published by Viking in February of 2005, and is the story of a year in the life of her and three of her children. They spent part of that year living in their car and trying to find a permanent home. An excerpt of the book was recently nominated for a 2004 Pushcart Prize.

To read a bit of what the memoir is about, read the essay that inspired it at Salon.com.

In her brief years on Earth, Michelle has also been a waitress, bartender, nursing assistant, tour guide for Ben and Jerry's, restaurant owner, farmer, musher, bread-baker, and page in the U.S. Senate...a few other things too. Michelle was born in Baltimore, Maryland and now resides in Vermont where she goes to T-Ball games and tries desperately to turn her black gardening thumb into a green one.
